HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Small Business Saturday is coming up this Thanksgiving weekend on Nov. 30, and the Kaimuki business community is hosting its 8th Keep It Kaimuki event.
Jordan Lee, owner of the Public Pet, and Patrick Twohy, regional manager of Hawaii State Federal Credit Union joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about the free event and efforts to promote and support the diverse small businesses of Kaimuki that give the neighborhood its charm and character.
Organizers say unlike big box stores, local shops offer unique, handmade and curated items that make holiday gifts special.
Keep It Kaimuki Saturday runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is family- and pet-friendly. Shoppers can take advantage of exclusive discounts and promotions at nearly 40 businesses, such as:
The public can enjoy free trolley rides throughout Kaimuki and holiday activities, photo ops and live entertainment at Aliʻiolani Elementary School — all for free.
Organizers added that shopping local during the holidays creates jobs and keeps money circulating in the local economy.
“When you shop local, you’re not just buying a product—you’re investing in the people and businesses that make our community thrive,” Twohy said.
